Spiridoula

About the Artist

Spiridoula Politis has been performing music and creating visual art since childhood. Originally from Lowell, MA, she began her earliest drawings on paper and on a secret wall in the house she grew up in (with mom's permission, of course). Influenced by her artistic mother, she took great joy in sewing, cooking, singing, and lots of imaginative play. She felt most inspired by the natural world and could be found admiring trees, flowers, and exploring the tactile sensations that playing with soil brought.

Her mixed media paintings and drawings explore major themes such as Universal Energy and all that it contains. Elements of the natural world combine and collide with topics such as ancient symbology, metaphysics, collective unconscious thought, memory and emotions, multiple dimensions, and the spiritual plane. Oh, and color, lots and lots of color.

Spiridoula received both her BA in Art Education and MAT in Art at Salem State College. She currently teaches art to middle school students at the Collins Middle School in Salem, MA. She continues to sing and play percussion in various musical projects and exhibits her visual art locally while working out of a studio in Somerville, MA. She currently lives in Cambridge, MA with her adopted greyhound, Missy Ananda Leela Devani.
